The College of International Hospitality and Management (CIHM) of DLSU-D continued the university’s tradition of excellence in competition as representatives to the Grand Culinary Challenge held at the World Trade Center in Manila bagged the most coveted national champion award in creative table setting.
HRM student Nivrel T. Talusan, with coach Mr. Rowell Paras wowed the judges of the nationwide food service competition exclusive for culinary students and was awarded the title of National Champion for excelling in the three factors – culinary creativity, efficiency and profitability.
Talusan’s win in November only strengthened the university’s winning streak in external competitions proving that the university offers not only excellence in classroom education but also opportunities to apply students’ skills in the field.
During the Manila Food and Beverage Expo 2011, participated in by 16 schools including DLSU-D, DLS-Lipa, UST, Trace College, PUP and Lyceum of the Philippines University-Manila, the team of Mary Ydaleen Tapang, Paoulo Bien Togonon, Maria Kriz Dominique Francisco, Richard Kasing and Nivrel Talusan bagged second place in the table setting category. The team of Karl Christian Go, Maria Betina Pascual and Milca Mica Billones also took second place in the Mocktail Punch Competition while Genny Rose Gonzales and Kassandra Mica Mariano placed third in the Barista Competition.
Meanwhile, at the recently concluded Batangas Food and Beverage Expo 2011, a regional interschool competition among culinary students within the CALABARZON area, DLSU-D was declared Bafbex 2011 Overall Champion as it bagged first place the Live Pasta Cookery Competition (Manuel Robin Hartman, Timothy James Soriano and Kendrick Jay Medina coached by Mr. Mario Luis Jamoralin); first place in Table Setting (Nivrel Talusan, Richard Kasing and Madelaine Vizmanos coached by Mr. Rowell Paras, Ms. Mae Casiles, and Mr. Christopher Peji); first place in the Bar Flippers Cup (Ronilo Bautista coached by Mr. Brando Tanauan); 2nd place in the Cake Duo Decorating Challenge (Fulepro Alberto Madrilejos and Jhoven Buenaventura); 3rd place in the Place Hospitality Quiz Bee (Christina Pauleen Ilisan and Criston John Quejada coached by Ms. Hazel Casino and Ms. Anna Lisa Tibayan) and 3rd place in Napkin Folding Competition (Mary Lyle Ordiz coached by Mr. Jose Bagamasbad and Ms. Wiziel Napod).
