DLSU-D alumna Purple Chrystyl Romero won in the first Siemens Green Technology Journalism Award (SGTJA) in Singapore on February 14.
DLSU-D alumna Purple Chrystyl Romero won in the first Siemens Green Technology Journalism Award (SGTJA) in Singapore on February 14. Romero’s article received a merit award for her article “Demand for tobacco harming Ilocos forest?” which was published in ABS-CBNNews.com and Newsbreak Online on April 29, 2009. Her article was one of the selected pieces among Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries to receive recognition. The article is about the continuous cutting of trees in the Ilocos Region to meet the demands for cigarettes.
SGTJA was the first of its kind in South East Asia with its focus on Green Technology, Sustainability, and Environmental issues in ASEAN countries.
The said article was also a finalist in the 2010 Developing Asia Journalism Awards, a competition for journalists who uphold development in the Asia-Pacific region.
Romero graduated with a degree in AB Broadcast Journalism in 2007. She was a former member and Features Editor of the Heraldo Filipino and is currently a research-writer for Newsbreak.
