Twenty seven radio shows, on air talents, alumni achievers and broadcast workers became the top honorees of the 1st Gawad Radyo Lasalyano Awards held by DWSU 95.9 Green FM La Salle at the Tanghalang Julian Felipe in La Salle Dasmariňas.

Leading the La Salle Radio Alumni Achiever Awardees for excellence in the field of radio broadcasting was BroadJourn alumni Mark Jimel Gales, also known as Chico Loco of 101.1 YES FM. Gales was a former disc jockey of La Salle Radio before he embarked on his professional radio career. In 2013, Chico Loco was honored as the Most Outstanding DJ by Top Brands.

Another graduate who received the award was DJ Bravo Cancionero, an iFM Laoag disc jockey and Station Manager of U-Radio Northwestern University in Laoag, Ilocos Norte. Also known as Jon Luis “Spider” Rodas, Cancionero is a voice talent and director who owns Studio 101, a media specialist company that discovers musical talents and manages events in Ilocos.

The third La Salle Radio Alumni Achiever Award recipient was Allan Francisco, news head of DZUP 1602 at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City. Francisco was the former Program Director for News at the rebranded La Salle Radio, now known as Green FM and coined its slogan “Basta Radyo, Dito Ka.”

Digital music artist Amor Jude Thadeus Soriano, former Green FM Programming Director for Music also became a recipient of the award. Amor composed the “Basta Radyo, Dito Ka” station jingle of Green FM and surprised attendees by performing an updated version of the song.

During the kick off of the 10th anniversary of La Salle Radio, now known as Green FM, Station Manager Angie Quadra-Balibay thanked the awardees for their contributions in shaping the station into what it is today. DWSU 95.9  FM  Cavite, a non-commercial educational radio station in Dasmariňas, began its operations in August 2005 after the National Telecommunications Commission issued its permit to operate.

The Gawad Radyo Lasalyano is a major project of the Broadcast Management class of the Communication and Journalism Department (CJD), De La Salle University-Dasmariňas, under the supervision of guest faculty and Green FM station manager Angie Quadra-Balibay.  The award recipients went through a nomination stage, passed a peer panel screening to become finalists, and thereafter adjudged winners by CJD faculty judges.
