De La Salle University-Dasmariñas has joined institutions around the world who have committed to promoting and implementing sustainable practices by signing the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) Charter, the first for any Philippine University.
“We are the only Philippine University that has signed the charter so far. Our University is committed in integrating these principles into our operations, research and curriculum,” Marlon Pareja, director of the University’s Environmental Resource Management Center said.
Under the charter, the University commits to abiding by the principles of the ISCN including the demonstration of respect for nature and society; incorporation of sustainability considerations in planning, construction, renovation, and operation of buildings on campus; assurance of long-term sustainable campus development wherein campus-wide master planning and target-setting should include environmental and social goals.
The University has also committed to align the organization’s core mission with sustainable development, facilities, research, and education should be linked to create a “living laboratory” for sustainability.
It can be recalled that the ISCN earlier featured DLSU-D’s Cavite Development Research programs focusing on integration of sustainability in research, as well as the establishment of a Centennial Botanic Garden focusing on integration to infrastructure in its publication under the Holistic Approach to Sustainability category as among the best practices for campus sustainability in the world.
